Wendy is proud to be the director of Urban Dance Co. Wendy began dancing at the age of 4, and has not stopped since. Her professional career to date includes appearing in many stage shows, TV Appearances, Films, and Music Videos, Wendy has worked with Mitsou, MC J and Cool G, "The History of Rock & Roll", "Hooray For Hollywood" Frank Hatchette, Debbie Dee, Hoctors Dance Caravan"Caravan Kids" to name but a few Wendy has also done freelance Choreography and production work for Motion pictures & Televison such as "Saving Silverman","Reindeer Games", "The Sixth Day", "Get Carter", "Supernatural", "Mysterious Ways" Mattel, Hasbro, Ocean Spray, Maxim Magazine, Coast Capital Savings, & W.N.S.O. Fitness, Wendy also Toured Eastern Canada as lead dancer and Choreographer for the professional dance company - "Fast Forward" - She has trained with some of the best in the dance world throughout, Montreal, New York, Toronto, Vancouver, and Las Vegas and continues to study every summer in New York at the Broadway Dance Centre. Wendy has won numerous awards for her unique Choreography and performances. And has written a syllabus specializing in instruction for Pre-Primary dancers, Wendy has been featured in Dance Teacher Magazine, and was awarded the "BEST DANCE INSTRUCTOR" by the readers of the Richmond Review for the last 3 years in a row. Wendy has taught for over 25 years with joy and enthusiasm across Canada and looks forward to bringing her love of dance and performance to the students of Urban Dance Co.

Wendy will be Directing and teaching this year at U.D.C. training our Jazz, Tap, Urban Tap, Pre Primary and Primary classes, along with Polynesian, and Company classes.

Mary has appeared in many stage shows through out her career including SET IT OFF 2010:Welcome to The Funhouse,SPORT BC's 44th Annual Athlete of The Year Awards Show at the River Rock Casino,2010 Winter Olympics RED MITTEN MOB for HUDSONS BAY COMPANY & Harbour Dance Centre which was broadcasted on Global TV daily during the Olympics.
She is currently the Junior Director of The 604 DELITE SHOWCASE Vancity's Homegrown Talent 2009 and is working on the 2nd 604 Delite Showcase to be scheduled this Jan 2011.
Mary is officially a member of Harbour Dance Centre's newest pre-professional dance crew,The Pussy Cat Dolls Performing Company Group.

Caitlin Griffin - Faculty Alumni & Guest Teacher | Ballet Technique, Pointe

Toronto native, Caitlin Griffin is a professional dancer and teacher based in Vancouver BC. Having received her classical training at The Goh Ballet Academy, Boston Ballet School, Kaatsbaan and Ballet British Columbia Summer Programs she has trained and worked with internationally acclaimed dancers and choreographers and has performed across Canada and China. Caitlin has worked with OMO Modern Dance Company, Ontario Ballet Theatre and is a returning Company Artist with Ballet de Printemps. Les Grands ballet Canadienne, and was a featured dancer in the Olympic Ceremonies. Caitlin is involved in all aspects of dance, and teaches at several schools in the Lower Mainland. She pulls from her classical, contemporary, flamenco and conditioning training as well as her performance experience to conduct classes which are physically challenging while offering dancers the opportunity to develop their passion and individual style. Caitlin is excited to join U.D.C. and foster the development of U.D.C. students.

Angelina Thorne | Belly Dance , Tribal , Yoga

Angelina Thorne is a professional yoga teacher and bellydance
teacher and performer. She has been studying yoga for 19 years,
teaching movement and dance since 1995, and teaching bellydance since
2006. Angelina has studied Modern Egyptian, Raks Sharqi, Tribal, and
dabbles in Turkish styles of belly dance, and performs a style that
reflects the fluidity and grace of this ancient art. She teaches her
students a holistic style of belly dance that includes solid
technique, expressive theatricality, and yoga for dancers. Contact

Moses Laycos | Jazz Technique, Jazz Company

A Native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Moses now trains and resides in Vancouver, BC. Trained in all styles of dance with contemporary jazz and hip hop being his forte. The focus of his class is not so much on technique, but more so capturing the emotion of the movement. Moses Started dance at the age of 19 and has continued his passion for the art and never looked back. He continues to inspire others, encouraging them that "it's never too late to start."
Moses has worked and trained closely with some of the most influential and sought after entertainers and choreographers in the business. Sonya Teyah, Mandy Moore, Erica Sobol, Chris Dupre, Blake McGrath, Bobby Newberry, Kelly Konno, Luther Brown, Nico Archambault, Wynn Holmes, to name a few.
You may also recognize him as one of Canada's Top 40 finalists 2 years in a row on the hit show SYTYCD Canada. He has also worked as a featured dancer and actor in such films as Nikelodeon's Spectacular, The Good Life, and HBO's series the L Word. He has also been a part of the PNE's production of Rolling Thunder and Royal Caribbean Cruise's "Once Upon a Time/ Marquee".

Having completed a year with one of Vancouver's most established companies, The Source, under director Joanne Pesusich, Moses continues to train, as he believes you can never stop growing and learning as an artist.

Alfonso Caldera | Salsa

Alfonso Caldera who is a W.S.F. World Salsa Champion & International Mayan Salsa Champion dancer. He is the director and choreographer of Bravo Dance Company and founder of Bravodancecompany.com. Alfonso was born in Nicaragua and was surrounded by salsa music at a very young age. He started dancing Salsa 15 years ago in Vancouver and then went on to train with the world famous dance team, Rumba Brava. Through the years Alfonso competed in some of the top salsa competitions where he consistently placed in the top three, including the Miami World Salsa Federation competition, winning the championship trophy. Alfonso has developed a unique style of dancing, LA-style Salsa which is prevalent in his teaching technique both in his classes and instructional videos.

Jennifer Aoki B.F.A. Dance | Contemporary Jazz , Ballet

Jennifer Aoki is a contemporary dance artist based in Vancouver, BC. After obtaining a BFA from Simon Fraser University in 2010, Aoki co-founded Triadic Dance Works, a local dance collective. She continues to create and perform work throughout the Lower Mainland as a versatile dancer and choreographer. While studying at SFU, she trained in ballet, Cunningham, Graham, Limon, and release-based techniques. She has also trained in New York City at the Merce Cunningham Studio, Alvin Ailey Studio, Studio 52, and the Broadway Dance Centre. After receiving a scholarship in Spring 2011 from EDAM, she continues to train in contact improvisation, ballet, contemporary, and jazz. Aoki currently teaches outreach dance programs through the City of Burnaby. Her fun-filled class reflects both her energetic personality and passion of dance and performance. Witnessing artistic growth in her students is both rewarding and inspiring, and Jennifer is thrilled to join the faculty at Urban Dance Co.

Jennifer Beaverstock | Tahitian, Hawaiian

Jennifer started dancing with Halau Kia’i O Ka Hula under the direction of Josie de Baat at the age of three. She has learned the delicate art of hula, as well as dance forms from other islands in the South Pacific; including, Tahiti, New Zealand, Samoa, and Fiji. Over the years Jennifer has competed in dance festivals throughout the lower mainland as well as in the United States. Winning numerous personal awards for overall top performances including; top Tahitian, Kahiko (ancient Hawaiian dance), Hawaiian, and overall top dancer awards. Jennifer has participated in workshops with some of the biggest Hawaiian Kumu’s (teachers) including; the late Uncle George Naope, Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu, Charles Ka’apu, Willie K, and several others. She has dedicated most of her life to learning the art of hula as well as the language and history of the country and art, and wishes to share her knowledge and love for dance with her students. She currently dances with Kumu Paddy Kauhane and Halau Hula Ka’Uhane O Ka Pakipika in Maple Ridge. And is excited to Join the faculty of Urban Dance Co.

Stephanie Sy | Sr Jazz Company,Jazz Technique, Sexy Stilleto's, Street Funk

Stephanie’s extensive credits span all genres of the entertainment industry
to include working in film, television, commercials, music videos, and live
shows. A force not to be reckoned with, she has appeared as a principal and
featured performer on work such as the movie “Another Cinderella Story”, 20th
Century Fox feature film “John Tucker Must Die”, Warner Bros. hit series
“Smallville”, music videos for SLANK “Too Sweet To Forget”, Lisette
Bustamante “I, Bittersweet”, and Reddnation “Wiggle Dem Toes”; Commercials
for Coca-Cola, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications & Burger King.
Stephanie obtained a bachelors degree from the prestigious University of
British Columbia, graduating with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and had
practiced as a kinesiologist for a short period of time. She realized quickly that
her true passion for dance was far greater, and this propelled her to utilize both
her degree and dance education to continue full force as a master instructor,
choreographer, adjudicator, and guest speaker throughout the world.

Kyle Toy | Ballet Technique,Pointe, Contemporary, Dancers Bootcamp, Ballet for Boys

Kyle Toy has loved dance since the age of seven. Kyle has attended the National Ballet School, holds a diploma in dance from Grant MacEwan College and has studied with Ballet British Columbia.

His training includes ballet, and ballet partnering in R.A.D. Checetti and Vagnova methods. Kyle also has vast experience in modern, contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, flamenco, classical Indian and Chinese National Dance, and body conditioning. Kyle has received numerous scholarships and awards, and has appeared in numerous performances throughout his career including The National Ballet of Canada’s “Nutcracker” for 5 seasons in a row, And landed the job of Choreographer for the major motion movie "Centre Stage 2" Kyle has worked with some of Canada’s top choreographers including James Kudelka, former Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Christopher House and contemporary dance legend Peggy Baker.

Kyle is proud to join the faculty of Urban Dance Company and looks forward to teaching his passion for dance to all his students at U.D.C.

A dance star in the making, J.P. is quickly rising to the top as a dancer & choreographer in the Vancouver dance scene, J.P.’s amazing choreography work has been used by some of the top crews in Vancouver including Xtreme Soul Style, Flow Ethics Dance Crew, Fresh Groove Dance Crew, Sick Stylz Symphony, St. Patrick’s boys & K.T.L. (Kill the lights). J.P.’s credits include award winning dance &Choreography for the Canadian Hip hop Champions, as well as 1st place in the International Dance Competition. J.P. has appeared and choreographed for “Set It Off”, “For the Love of It”, & International Dance Day, - Some of J.P’s teaching credits include Drive Dance Centre & Harbour Dance, and now J.P. is proud to add URBAN DANCE CO. to the list- J.P. looks forward to teaching his U.D.C. students some of the freshest moves yet! Leona Planko Finlayson | Belly Dance Egyptian style, Slow Sultry Styles Belly Dance

Leona, aka Mama Spice or the whip-cracker of Ala Nar, is known for her effervescent energy and luscious technique. At 8 Leona joined her first troupe, the Slovenian Folkloric dancers. With her mother's ballroom and brother's disco dancing savvy as strong influences, she went on to cheer
leading, night club dancing competitions and hip hop. In 2001 she was
looking to incorporate dance back into her life and discovered the beautiful
art of bellydance. While she continues to learn the different styles ofMiddle Eastern dance, raks sharqi remains her passion. Some of the wonderfulteachers she has studied with are: Venus, Rahma, Nath Keo, JIllina, Tamalyn,Dallal, Bozenka, Suhaila Sulimpour, Sharon Kihara, Rachel Brice, Ranya, and Roula to name a few of the amazing instructors that have made an impact in her life.

Leona teaches belly dance at the Killarney Community Centre, Moberly Arts
and Cultural Centre and the YMCA. She is certified as a group fitness and
pre and post natal fitness instructor. Recently she was a featured dancer on
the Bellydance workout hosted by Omni Television.

Sally Myrfield | Belly Dance for kids, Belly Dance Adult , Tribal Fusion, Belly teen, and Belly Dance Drills & Skills

Sally has an extensive dance background and a versatile artist, starting her dance career years ago in Jazz, Tap, ballet, Lyrical and Polynesian, Sally soon found her true calling in Belly Dance and has been mastering and teaching the techniques she has grown to love.

Since the Fall of 2005 Sally has been dedicated to the art form, studing with masters of the discipline Martina Crowe Hewett, Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Sharon Kihara, Samantha Hasthrope, and many more. In May of 2009 Sally became a level one certified Dancer with Suhaila Salimpour. From the Spring of 2007 to the Summer of 2009 Sally was a member of Turquoise — Vancouver’s largest tribal fusion troupe. In the Spring of 2009 Sally became one of the founding members of the troupe Ginger Blue , They made their debut at Tribal Fest of the same year in San Francisco. Ginger Blue performs frequently throughout the lower mainland, as well as the U.S.A. and Europe.
Sally looks forward to bringing her passion and creative drive to her students at Urban Dance Co.

Brittany Tiplady | Ballet, pointe, Lyrical Company, Lyrical

Brittany began dancing at the age of 5 at the Cameron Academy of Dance in Langley, British Columbia. She joined Dolores Kirkwood’s Royal City Youth Ballet Company at the age of 9, and so began a 1o year journey with the company that led to her performance of the lead role “Snow Queen” in the 2007 season. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet accepted Brittany at age 12 on full scholarship to their summer intensive, where she was later offered a position as a full time student in the school’s professional division. After continuing her training with Deborah Cameron, the RCYB Company, and participating in numerous competitions and festivals, Brittany attended the American Ballet Theater’s four week intensive in Detroit in the summer of 2007, as well as the Rock School for Dance Education summer intensive in Philadelphia in 2008. Brittany has completed the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus with high grades, and more recently completed her Advance One examination in 2007. In addition to her other achievements, Brittany has also received training from Nicholas Ade of the Pacific North West Ballet School, Daniel Ulbricht of the New York City Ballet, Evelyn Hart, Amber Funk-Barton, Josh Beamish, Scott Augustine, and many others. Ms. Tiplady fell in love with the rewards of teaching after spending many years as an assistant teacher at Cameron Academy, and eventually as a resident dance educator at the studio. As a graduate student of Deborah Cameron, and a well- seasoned dancer, Brittany is very enthusiastic about her first year at Urban and hopes to make it a great season.

Megan Blackford | Belly Dance - Tribal Fusion

A life-long visual artist, Megan found her true passion in the creative movement of belly dance at the age of 21. From the Spring of 2007 to the Summer of 2009 Megan was a member of Turquoise — Vancouver’s largest tribal fusion troupe. In the Spring of 2009 Megan became one of the founding members of the troupe Ginger Blue along with Sally Myrfield, and director Martina Crowe-Hewett. They made their debut at Tribal Fest In San Fransisco the same year, and have been return special guest performers at this event ever since. Megan has also just returned from performing overseas. And loves any opportunity to perform.Nowadays, Megan trains with the best in the business who visit the Greater Vancouver area to teach workshops.
In May of 2009 Megan received her certification (level 1) with Suhaila Salimpour Megan intends to continue her training with Suhaila and complete her degree of certification in the near future.Megan looks forward to teaching her students at urban the love of belly dance and the passion of performance.

Sara Park ~ GUEST TEACHER~ | Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Boot Camp, Musical Theatre, Contemporary Jazz

Sara originally from Edmonton, Alberta where she studied dance from age three. At seventeen, Sara moved to Vancouver to dance with the Source Dance Company where she enjoyed three years of incredible classes and exciting performance opportunities. Along with stage work Sara has also worked on several feature films, music videos, television shows and commercials including “Percy Jackson and the Olympians – The Lightning Thief,” Michael Buble – Haven’t Met You Yet,” “Marriage,” “Eureka” and “Kyle XY.” In addition to pursuing her passion for Dance, Sara is studying at the University of British Columbia and is currently in her last year at the Sauder School of Business where she will graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Marketing. Sara has been teaching for the past 8 years, in addition to dancing professionally, and gets a great deal of joy from watching her students develop their personal love of dance. Her training includes jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, bootcamp, and musical theatre.

Over The Influence is an all male dance company based in Vancouver, BC and is constantly raising the bar for innovation and execution in Canada’s urban dance movement. Their repertoire of dance styles is vast from video dance, break dancing and krumping to the foundational styles of hip hop in popping, locking and new jack swing. Going beyond the standards of urban dance, OTI brings an array of themes, theatrics & storylines on top of their already unique and eye-catching choreography, leaving audiences amazed with the quality and substance of their shows.

OTI consists of founding members Jojo Zolina, Yo,Stewart Iguidez,
Marc Generoso & Yoshi Hisanaga . They have performed for various artists such as ‘Nelly Furtado’, ‘Black Eyed Peas’, ‘The Roots’, ‘K-Os’, the ‘Beastie Boys’, ‘Grandmaster Flash’, and ‘Swollen Members’. Movie Credits include: ‘See Spot Run’, ‘Catwoman’, ‘Reefer Madness’, and ‘Life or Something Like It’. Individually and collectively, their talents have taken them beyond Vancouver, sharing their knowledge and skills in China, Germany, Brazil, Bosnia, Afghanistan, the Philippines, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Stanislav Galimkhanov | Russian Folk Dance, Ukrainian Dance, Ballet

Stanislav Galimkhanov graduated from the Bashkir Choreography College which is named after Rudolf Nuriev, in the Ariste of Folk Dance Ensemble program with a specialization in choreography. Soon after graduating, Stanislav began his career with the Folklore Dance Company "Miras", followed by a five years stint with The State Academic Gaskarov Folk Dance Company. Stanislav has performed in shows all over Russia and toured around the world giving performances in Turkey, Italy, Germany, France, Great Britain and Canada. While dancing professionally,he also lent his choreographic skills to the TV show “We are stars” in Ufa. In 2007 Stanislav was conferred to the highest level, that can be awarded in Russia for dancers, based on the United Tariff System, .
Since immigrating to Canada, Stanislav has continued to perform, choreograph and teach
His solo performance as part of the acclaimed 'Trepak' in the Goh Ballet Nutcracker was reviewed and raved by many critics in various newspapers and journals. He has been part of the Goh Ballet 'Nutcracker' for the past three years.
In 2009, Stanislav was invited to teach and choreograph Ukrainian Dance at the Kvitka Ukrainian School of Dance for the children in the age group of 5- 15 .He continued his involvement with Russian culture by becoming a member of the Yablocho ensemble and Romane group.He was part of the team that performed for the Opening Ceremony at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games .Stanislav was also a leading performer for the group, Random Acts of Circus. He continues to perform at various cultural events held throughout Vancouver.
Highly professional and extremely talented, Stanislav is ready and willing to share his great love for folk dance.

Charlotte Chan ~Assistant Teacher~ | Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, pointe, Lyrical ,Hip hop

Charlotte is an amazing contemporary and Jazz dancer, with a strong back ground in ballet, Charlotte had studied with some of the best in the business and continues to train at URBAN DANCE CO. and international conventions in all disciplines. Charlotte's love of dance has helped her cross over into other disciplines where she has found a passion for hip hop, and street jazz.

Charlotte has won numerous awards at local competitions in both solo and group categories, and prides herself on strong technical ability. Charlotte is a great asset to the U.D.C. faculty assisting in many classes teaching her students the passion for dance that she has achieved. And looks forward to helping U.D.C. students achieve their full potential in all her classes.

Sydney has danced since the young age of 5 and has not stopped since, she is a well rounded versatile dancer who challenges herself in every class. She has been under the direction of Wendy Lee Riley for the last 10 years and has studied with some of the best in the industry!

Sydney is an award winning dancer competing in the top categories at local competitions and always coming out with GOLD! Sydney is proud to be part of the U.D.C. Dance faculty and looks forward to teaching her students everything she can to help them become better dancers.

Sonia has trained with some of the best in the business including Tara Jean Popowitch,Vincent Desjardins,Everett Smith, Moses Laycos, and has been under the direction of Wendy Lee Riley for the past 3 years.

Sonia is an amazing dancer and has a background in Jazz, lyrical,contemporary,pointe,Ballet, and Hip Hop she has attended both national and international competitions and has done herself proud always coming out a winner placing Gold in both duo and group categories.Sonia's love of choreography and great creative skills have been recognized both at competition and in the studio where she loves teaching students some of her amazing work.

Sonia is excited to join the faculty of U.D.C. and looks forward to working with the students to help them gain knowledge, and technical ability while inspiring and encouraging them in the amazing atmosphere at URBAN DANCE CO.

Sam Frey | Lyrical

Sam started dancing at the very early age of three and then began competitive dancing at age 7. From there she competed in competitions all over world. In 2003 she went to Germany where she competed on the Canadian National Dance Team bringing home Canada the GOLD! She also placed in the top 10 with her jazz solo, making Canada very proud! Sam knew that dancing was her calling and decided to pursue a career in the arts. A recent graduate of The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, Sam integrated singing and acting into the mix, making her a triple threat performer.
Currently, Sam is a working artist in the industry being in shows such as The Pajama Game, The Canadian premiere of “The String of Pearls”, and most recent High School Musical 2. Sam also had the opportunity to work for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a dancer in their Production Shows “Can’t Stop the Rock” and “Stage to Screen”. Sam was also one of the Top 40 of So you think you can Dance Canada, her solo was featured on the Montreal Auditions.
Teaching different styles of dance Ballet , Jazz, lyrical and Hip-hop makes Sam a very sought after teacher in the Dance Community. Sam’s style of dance is very unique and she can’t wait to share this new art of dance with Urban Dance Co!

Darelle Poole | Jazz Company, Jazz Technique

Darelle dreampt of dancing ever since she she can remember, and from the moment she put on her first pair of shoes, has never looked back.

Darelle successfully completed her CDTA Advanced Tap and Jazz as well as her Advanced 2 RAD Ballet. Throughout her dance years, Darelle was also very successful in competitions in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
After completing high school, she followed her heart and moved to Vancouver to train and perform with The Source Dance Company under the direction of Joanne Pesuisich. After completing the year she continued training in L.A. at The Edge, Debbie Reynolds and Millennium. Darelle then auditioned and became a dancer for Royal Caribbean International where she gained an enormous amount of performance experience. Among the many highlights of her cruise ship experience are performing Louis Van Amstel’s ballroom choreography in “Invitation To Dance”, and the most exciting role of her career, Amber Von Tussle in the Broadway musical “Hairspray”

Darelle is back in Vancouver where she continues dancing as well as training to strengthen her acting and vocal skills so she can continue to pursue her dreams be a triple threat.!And is excited to join the faculty of U.D.C. to help share her knowledge with her students.
